(Liberty Bell) – Bob Costas, a former broadcaster for NBC Sports, decided to take an opportunity during a recent appearance on television to completely rip into former President Donald Trump by referring to him as the “most disgraceful figure in modern presidential history.” I’m not exactly sure why anyone would care what Costas, a sports ball kind of guy, would have to say about politics, especially long after the twilight of his career, but hey, this interview took place on CNN’s ‘Smerconish,’ over the weekend, so maybe that explains it?
Oh, and Costas didn’t just tear into Trump. He also bashed his followers, referring to them as a “toxic cult.” Look, every group of individuals on the planet, whether they be those who follow a specific politician, religious figure, or celebrity, has members who belong to it that are out of their gourd. It’s part of human nature. However, just because there might be a few eccentric types in the crowd does not invalidate an entire movement or the principles said movement stands for.
Those who follow Trump truly believe in the idea of American exceptionalism. Our nation’s founding principles are eternally true and best for building a free society. Radical leftists are tearing that apart bit by bit. Passionate people have arisen to try and stop this from happening. Many are asleep at the wheel and need someone to wake them up before wrecking into a telephone poll. Sometimes that might mean some obnoxious folk get mixed up in things. It is what it is. It happens to liberals too.
“Additionally, he handed President Biden a stiff rebuke for running for office again, claiming that Biden is risking plunging the country into “insanity” under Trump by not stepping aside and letting someone stronger run against the 45th president,” Fox News reported.

The reason that Michael Smerconish brought Costas onto his program was to revisit some comments he made during an episode of ‘Real Time With Bill Maher’ during the first part of February. Costas had made the claim that the “hubris” of President Joe Biden was making him run for a second term in office despite doing so not being in the best interest of the nation or his own political party.
“The Emmy-award winning sports reporter was first invited to weigh in on why Trump needs to be stopped at all costs. Costas responded with a forceful condemnation of the former president and his supporters,” Fox noted.
“He is by far the most disgraceful figure in modern presidential history. He’s only become more disgraceful since 2016 and since 2020. He is a bubbling cauldron of loathsome traits,” the sports broadcaster remarked. He then added that only cult members would actually believe Trump was fit for the office of presidency.
“You have to be in the throes of some sort of toxic delusion and in a toxic cult to believe that Donald Trump has ever been, in any sense, emotionally, psychologically, intellectually, or ethically fit to be President of the United States,” he continued, going on to add, “But his supporters are locked in on that.”
And then Cranky Costas poured out his wrath on Biden, criticizing him for seeking a second term in the White House.
“He had a chance to be seen as a statesman and a patriot. Now his legacy is likely to be that of a man whose hubris prevented him from seizing the moment in an appropriate way, and at best, he can squeak by Trump – that’s at best,” Costas fired off.
He added, “Or he could lose to Trump and subject the nation to four more years of this kind of ongoing insanity. Or if he squeaks by, it’s very likely that he cannot complete his second term. He‘d be 86 at the end of it.”
Smerconish asked Costas if it was possible Biden wasn’t getting enough credit for everything he’s done in office. To be fair, the only thing he’s done in office is destroy our economy, usurp power and authority away from the American people, and make a fool of himself.
“He cannot make that case for himself. He cannot make a clear, cogent, vigorous case for himself, nor can he prosecute the obvious case against Trump in the court of public opinion,” Costas responded.
He explained that Biden is a weak person and that his staff is well aware of that fact, and thus shouldn’t be tasked with taking on Trump whom he referred to as a “monster.”
“His own staff knows that he has to be bubble-wrapped – that he can‘t do a Super Bowl interview. It‘s sad to say, Biden is obviously, on balance, a decent man. He served his country and no matter what, sane people will vote for him over Trump. But it’s a hell of a risk to send this guy out there,” Costas continued.
“Trump is a monster. You shouldn‘t send this guy out there at this point in his life to try and slay the dragon,” he finished.
I bet if you ask Costas what makes Trump a monster, he would tell you that he’s a racist and a homophobe along with all sorts of other things. Then, if you asked him to provide examples to support his claims it would be nothing but sound bytes taken out of context. What about actual policies and measures that were implemented? Costas would have no leg to stand on.
Essentially, people hate Trump because they think that’s what they are supposed to do. It’s what the mainstream media tells them to do. It is definitely not for what he actually accomplished in office.
