Bill Maher Warns Liberals Of The Dire Consequences Of Letting Cancel Culture Run Amok

(Liberty Bell) – Bill Maher is no small-government conservative and has, on more than one occasion, defended socialism and much of the left’s political agenda.

However, if there is one area in which he is often the lone voice of reason among leftists, it’s free speech and cancel culture.

Maher has spent his career warning about the perils of political correctness and championing free speech, and he often pushes back against the increasingly ideologically monolithic progressive left’s cultural assault on pluralism.

During his “Real Time” program on Friday, Maher warned liberals that the cancel culture they’ve helped create is soon to turn against them if they’re not careful.

Now that they’ve successfully canceled so many Republicans, he explained, the mob will soon turn on its own.

“Liberals need a Stand Your Ground law…for cancel culture.” Maher said at the start of his closing monologue, “so that when the woke mob comes after you for some ridiculous offense, you’ll stand your ground, stop apologizing. Because I can’t keep up with who’s on the s—list.”

Every single American needs to take this warning to heart—we need to stop apologizing and giving these people fuel for their cancel mob.

Maher pointed to the recent firing of actress Gina Carano from the Mandalorian, who was turned upon by the “woke mob” ironically over a post about the parallels between cancel culture and treatment Jews were subject to in the early days of Nazi rule in Germany.

“She made some Nazi analogy. Who doesn’t these days?!?” Maher asked rhetorically. “‘You’re like the Nazis’ is the new ‘I don’t like you.’ ‘It’s always OK when Trump’s the Nazi.’…By the way, you can’t work in Hollywood if you don’t believe what we believe? Yeah, in the 1950s, that’s exactly what the left complained they were being told.”

“If you think it’s just for celebrities, no,” he continued. “In an era when everyone is online, everyone is a public figure. It’s like we’re all trapped in ‘The Hills Have Eyes…and Wifi.’”

Maher posed the question to his audience as to whether this is really what we want to become, a society of phony, clenched-a—— avatars walking on eggshells, always looking over your shoulder about getting ratted out for something that actually has nothing to do with your character or morals?”

These are very good and important questions for anyone who wants to continue to live in a society where people of varying ideologies and backgrounds can live peacefully in coexistence.

“Think about everything you’ve ever texted, emailed, searched for, tweeted, blogged, or said in passing. Or now even just witnessed. ‘Someone had a Confederate flag in their dorm room in 1990 and you didn’t do anything?’ ‘You laughed at a Woody Allen movie?’” Maher continued.

Finally, he got to the crux of the matter—the fact that hardly anyone is doing anything to stop this dangerous societal trajectory.

“Everybody hates it but nobody stands up to it,” he stated. “Because it’s always the safe thing to swallow what you really think and just join the mob.”

“Memo to social justice warriors: When what you’re doing sounds like an Onion headline, stop,” he said in conclusion.

And he’s absolutely right—these people won’t be able to stand up to the monster they’ve created. Conservatives need to stop acting like any of this matters and look the mob squarely in the face and tell them we no longer care about their aimless, hateful attacks.

It doesn’t work, and it doesn’t mean anything to be canceled anymore.

The more leftists like Maher wake up to what is happening the better—and the sooner we can get back to a nation that is genuinely dedicated to unity.

  1. The cancel culture is feeding the worst part of our society. Our inability to cope with discomfort of any kind and to eliminate it. The reason behind this form of function goes so beyond culture and early into our family structure. Children are not even remotely being taught with how to deal with failure. Parents are confusing “you failed” with “you are a failure “, which makes them feel badly about themselves so in turn they stole parenting and placate their child. This teaches an adverse reaction to any type of discomfort. Ultimately this causes a total deadening of a society (NKorea). They are often miserable and cannot even acknowledge it
